through the jungle of Gunung Leuser national park, home to the Sumatran
orangutan, swimming at unspoilt Batu Katak, getting a kiss from an elephant at
Tangkahan to visiting one of Medan’s many cultural sights. Sumatra dreaming

Pick up at Medan Kuala Namu International Airport.
Day 1
Pick-up from Medan Kuala Namu airport by private
transport with aircon and travel directly to Bukit Lawang (3-4 hours). You will
have time to explore the village, visit the bat cave (depending on your arrival
time) or relax in the guesthouse for the remainder of the day/evening.
WAMPU (‘Jungle Style’ rafting)
Day 2
After breakfast, a short 1 hour drive will take you
to the top of the Wampu River where you will spend the day rafting ‘jungle
style’ down the river whilst enjoying the views, before journeying to your
homestay for the night.
Included
1 night stay in a homestay, guide fees, driver,
petrol, permit, 1.5L bottle of water, and rental equipment (helmet, paddle,

What to bring
A small backpack with a change of clothes,
raincoat, swimwear, small towel, medicines, camera + spare battery + memory
card (in a waterproof bag), insect repellent, sunblock, plastic bag (to put wet
clothes in).
BUKIT LAWANG (Orangutan Trek)
Day 3
Begin your 2 day/1 night jungle trekking adventure at
8.30am when your guide collects you from your guesthouse and takes you into the
jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7
hours), your guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna you
may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, you will continue your trek to see
other wildlife (if you’re lucky you may see the Thomas’ leaf monkey,
white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque,
hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards) and learn about the trees/plants which
can be used in traditional medicine. Late afternoon-your guide will select a
suitable spot next to the river to set-up camp. You are then free to enjoy the
fresh water of the Bohorok river, swim, help prepare dinner, or even go
fishing. After dinner, weather permitting, our team will prepare a bonfire and
the guides will entertain you with their jungle skills, games and songs before
you settle down to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and river.
Day 4
After breakfast, your guide will take you to a
waterfall where you can swim, relax and spot wildlife such as monitor lizards.
After lunch, you will leave the campsite by traditional rafting boat (‘jungle
style’) following the river downstream to the village and directly to your
guesthouse.
Included: Guide fee, meals (day 3-lunch, dinner, fruit, day
4-breakfast, lunch, fruit), all equipment (tent, roll mat, sleeping bag), 1.5L
bottle of water, and traditional tube rafting back during the trek.
What to bring for the trek
A small backpack with a change of clothes, raincoat,
swimwear, small towel, small pillow, personal items, toilet paper, medicines,
camera + spare battery + memory card (in a waterproof bag), insect repellent,
sunblock, torch, plastic bag (to put wet clothes in), sandals/flip flops (to
walk around the camp).
Please make sure your luggage is as light as possible
(ideally under 10kg).
You will be provided with a 1.5L bottle of water for each
person, which the guide will refill at the camp with boiled water.
Clothing
long sleeves/trousers are optional as there are
few mosquitos. Although nights can be cold in the jungle. Wearing something
comfortable is most important.
Shoes
waterproof shoes with good grip/tread are essential
for slippery paths.
BATU KATAK (Unspoilt natural beauty)
Day 5
Journey to Batu Katak, 18km from Bukit Lawang, a favourite
for tourists due to its stunning natural beauty and clean, clear rivers. On the
way, you will stop to visit a rubber plantation and learn how the rubber is
produced. At Batu Katak there are opportunities to swim, relax and enjoy a
delicious BBQ lunch.

TANGKAHAN (Elephant Adventure)
Day 6
After breakfast, drive to Tangkahan by aircon jeep (2
hours) along bumpy roads through villages and palm oil plantations. On arrival,
after registering with the park office, you will start your elephant trek
through the jungle (2 hours), where your guide will explain how Tangkahan
became a protected area for elephants, as well as showing you the local flora,
fauna and wildlife. After your trek, you will have the opportunity to wash and
feed the elephants, before eating lunch at a traditional restaurant overlooking
the river. Afternoon-a short walk from the restaurant and a swim across the
river leads you to a natural hot spring, where you will have time to swim and
relax, before visiting a cave on the drive back to your guesthouse in Bukit
Lawang. Evening-free time to relax.

MEDAN (Experience the culture)
Day 7
After breakfast, start your journey back to Medan
(3-4 hours). Time permitting, you will have the opportunity to visit one of
Medan’s cultural highlights e.g. Maimun Palace, Great Mosque of Medan, Tjong A
Fie’s mansion, Marian Shrine of Annai Velangkanni or Maha Vihara Maitreya
Cemara Asri, before being dropped at the airport or your accommodation.
