Bukit Lawang to Kuta Cane - Crossing the jungle of Leuser
National Park
Our 7 days/6 nights trek will take you on a week long
adventure of a lifetime, deep into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park.
On your breathtaking journey from Bukit Lawang to Kutacane, you will trek along
the banks of the river. Offering you the chance to see animals which inhabit
the area including snakes, monitor lizards, wild pigs and porcupine before
slowly climbing to the summit of the mountain.
Day 1
After breakfast your guides will pick you up at 8.30 am from
your guesthouse/hotel in Bukit Lawang and you will start your journey into the
jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7
hours) your guides will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna that
you may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, you will continue your trek to
see wildlife (if you’re lucky you may see the Thomas leaf monkey, white-handed
gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills,
peacocks and monitor lizards) and learn about the trees and plants that can be
used in traditional medicine.
Late afternoon your guides will select a suitable spot next
to the river to set up the camp below Mount Jamur Batu or Batu Gajah on the
banks of the Landak River, an area of outstanding natural beauty. You are then
free to enjoy the river, help prepare dinner or even learn some jungle skills.
Before settling down to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and river.

drinking along the way. Before nightfall your guides will show you to your

After breakfast your group will trek deeper into the forest,
hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the many wild animals known to inhabit the
area including the elusive Sumatran tiger, as well as elephants and deer. Camp

A few words about the conditions
You have to be fit
for this trek, since climbing can be exhausting in the hot and humid climate
and at times the ground may be steep and deeply-forested. We will all sleep in
a big tent and wash ourselves in the river.
You might find it useful to do a short one-day practice trek
before you embark on this expedition.
