Itinerary
Day One
Pick-up from Kuala Namu International airport or hotel
in Medan and drop by private car to Bukit Lawang. Check in at hotel, relax and
enjoy the place.
Days Two
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at 8.30am from
the hotel and you will start your journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser
National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7 hours), your guide will
educate the local wildlife, flora and fauna you may encounter in Gunung Leuser.
After lunch, you will continue your trek to see other wildlife (if you’re lucky
you may see the Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon,
long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards)
and learn about the trees/plants which can be used in traditional medicine.
Late afternoon-on arrival at camp, you are free to enjoy the fresh water of the
Bohorok river, swim and relax. Later on, you will leave the campsite by
traditional rafting boat (‘jungle style’)back following the river
downstream to the village and directly to Bukit lawing/Hotel.
Days Three
After breakfast at 9am get ready for one day white water
rafting (for the itinerary see white water rafting column) back in the afternoon
to Bukit Lawang and stay one more night here.
Days Four
Early morning around 6:00 am leave to Tangkahan (two-hour
drive by car). after that start at 9 am help elephant washing and then do
elephant trekking for one hour. Relaxing at the river and take a swim in the
river and then to the hot spring. After lunch continue 5 hours journey to
Berastagi. Check in and enjoy the place at the hotel here.
Days Five
In the morning after breakfast at 8am set up for climbing
the Sibayak volcano,(around 3 hours) after the climb you can also visit the hot
springs . On the way back to the accomodation, in the afternoon make a stop at
the famous fruit market. In the afternoon get ready for journey to Lake Toba.
During the journey you will stop at the waterfall Sipiso-piso, where you can
enjoy a spectacular view from the top of the hill. Continue journey to Lake
Toba, where you arrive at late afternoon,then cross to Samosir Island. Check in
relax and enjoy the place in here (Tuk Tuk Island).
Days Six
In the morning after breakfast start tour around Samosir
Island. Visit the Ambarita village, then Simanindo to see Batak museum and
Batak traditional dance performance at 10:30 am. After the performance visit
another village to see sarong/ulos or Batak blanket maker. You can stop for
lunch before back to the accommodation in the afternoon. After the tour take a
rest or swim in the lake on your last day in Lake Toba.
Days Seven
In morning after breakfast, start your journey back from
Lake toba to Medan (5 to 6 hours). Time permitting, you will have the
opportunity to visit one of Medan’s cultural highlights e.g. Maimun Palace,
Great Mosque of Medan, Tjong A Fie’s mansion, Marian Shrine of Annai
Velangkanni or Maha Vihara Maitreya Cemara Asri, before being dropped to the
airport/hotel.
